Sixth Circuit Musings is a blog founded in June 2026 offering analysis and commentary on the federal court of appeals and district courts within the Sixth Circuit. This blog is a passion project — but a side passion. My day job comes first. I’m a trial and appellate attorney at Ashbrook Byrne Kresge Flowers LLC — a boutique litigation and transactional law firm. That means I can’t promise a regular publishing schedule, but, when I have the capacity to write, I will. One related point: please note that none of the views expressed here should be read as necessarily reflecting the views of my firm or anyone else who works there. This blog operates completely independently from the firm.

Why did I create this blog? A few reasons. Years ago I wrote about developments in the Sixth Circuit, and I genuinely loved it — this is, in part, a return to something I already know I enjoy. On top of that, one of the things I’ve come to appreciate over my years in practice is that being a lawyer means signing up to be a lifelong learner. It’s one of the things I love most about the profession. Writing here is a way to keep doing that — to keep reading closely, thinking carefully, and learning something new about the Sixth Circuit, where my colleagues and I are fortunate to practice regularly. If these musings are useful to anyone else along the way, all the better.
